2022 LP Million Dollar Performances (Drag City)
Recorded at Forking Paths Studio
The Desk Metal classic from Faxed Head.
Emerging once again from the blackened pits of Coaling Station A (Coalinga) in 1997, Faxed Head unleashed its second full-length abomination. For those not in the know, Coalinga is an apocalyptic hell in central California that is far bleaker than the quaint snow-dusted forests of Scandinavia, and therefore a million times more representative of the damaged conditions that lead to the creation of extreme metal (and the flourishing of cartels, rapture theology, and of course serial killers). Misunderstood and friendless after the release of their early-90s album "Uncomfortable But Free", Faxed Head released Exhumed at Birth mainly to the delight of a small snickering literati of post-punks, avant gardists and drug addicts in SF, Melbourne and Montreal. It goes without saying that, at the time, most of the metal world was so suburban, sanitized and boring that it could NEVER assimilate a record like this -- with its extreme electroacoustic manipulations, the sickest, noisiest covers of songs by Leonard Cohen, Richard Harris and Robin Gibb, and songs with public health warnings about the danger of spirit possessions being carried out under the cover of fast food promotions with satanic Hollywood tie-ins. But times have changed. Now that everything McPatrick Head wrote about in 1997 has come true, we think some of the metal heads will finally get this.
